Murray Shearer

Murray Shearer is a tutor at Praxis, where he trains youth workers from across the country.

He also serves on the komiti of Maraeroa, an urban marae in Porirua East, where he lives with his wife Shona, their three teenagers, and a lively foxy named Awhi. His happy place is out on the water around Mana Island, fishing from the tinny with his son Gabe.

When he’s not teaching or out on the ocean, you’ll likely find him in his shed—chopping firewood or somehow managing to turn used chip oil into biodiesel.

Murray is a founding member of The Buskers, who make occasional, unannounced appearances on Cuba Street in Wellington.
