We’d love you to join us for our next Lunch and Learn webinar, where Chris sits down with Jay Ruka to explore the vision and opportunities behind Te Manu Hononga: Sir Paul Reeves Centre.
Inspired by the life and work of Sir Paul Reeves, this new education initiative is pioneering fresh ways to equip and encourage the for-purpose sector. Jay will share the story of the Centre’s creation, the opportunities it opens up, and why peace and reconciliation are vital for us all—our nation, our communities, and as people who follow Jesus.
Bring your lunch, tune in, and be part of the conversation!
Date: Monday, 13th October
Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Jay Ruka
As a communicator, Jay brings a creative twist to various cultural and Christian faith topics and is passionate about exploring the missional history of New Zealand and how the gospel intersects with the Māori world. He shares a vision for the future of Aotearoa, highlighting the significance of Te Ao Māori and the beauty of cultural partnership.
As the Dean of Taranaki Cathedral, he is assisting the cathedral team in restructuring their governance according to the Anglican Church's 1992 Constitution, Te Pouhere, which specifically empowers bicultural governance, leadership, and mission.
Leading the remediation work of the cathedral building, Jay is exploring the idea of what it might look like to strengthen settler heritage–the cathedral–with indigenous heritage, by partnering with mana whenua.
Jay is also the pioneering director of Te Manu Hononga: Sir Paul Reeves Centre, an education initiative inspired by the life and work of Sir Paul Reeves. One of the works to date has been the creation of Te Whare Hononga, a whare wānanga built between Taranaki Cathedral and Ngāti Te Whiti hapū to give precedence to mana whenua through being honest storytellers of the church's conflicted past.
